Money Mark! Little Wings! Floating Action!

Well, last month was the month of singles, and this month, we've got some incredible pressed LPs all dropping at the same time! Some are preorders, so we will ship them out ASAP...

PLEASE DOUBLE CHECK YOUR ADDRESS IN PAYPAL! :-)

Little Wings – Ropes in Paradise LP

Oh boy... this is one I've REALLY been waiting for... The Little Wings Country Covers Record! You all know how much I love Little Wings and how much I love Classic Country. Kyle Field went in with a top crew of studio musicians to make a truly sincere country record, but with that Little Wings stoney, surfer flair.

Limited Edition of 500 copies. Available on either Yellow or Black vinyl. 200 were bought by a vinyl subscription company, and Kyle has a bunch, so we only have about 100 yellow and 50 blacks available.

Also available for Distro is Kyle's self-released new LP of originals, PEOPLE. This is an incredible album, and includes my second favorite of all Little Wings songs (one that was originally going to be on Ropes, but got moved because it wasn't a cover), “Paradise” This song is an instant classic.. I knew it the first time I heard him play at the PIAPTK curated Ace Hotel Palm Springs Vinyl Weekend a couple years ago. It's such a perfect country folk song that if it weren't for Kyle's signature weird word play and references to flip-flops, you would swear it was a cover from a song from your childhood.

Floating Action – Old World Camels

PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS A PREORDER - These will not arrive for a week or two (the AHT handpainted may take longer), so if you want to order other items and have them ship sooner, please place two seperate orders.

Floating Action is back! Much like PIAPTK, Seth Kaufman always says that the next release will be his last. And just like PIAPTK, he (thankfully) keeps on cranking out the hits. And like the last couple of FA releases, we are ridicuosly pleased to co-release OWC with my favorite record label in the world, Almost Halloween Time. Luigi the Italian Madman is, once again, making 100 unique oil paintings for the covers with handwritten titles on the back. If you somehow haven't checked out his incredible catalog, get it together and go here.

Old World Camels is limited to 300 copies, and will most likely never be pressed again. We always sell out of these within a few days (or sooner).

The PIAPTK version (ltd ed of 200 copies) has silkscreened chipboard jackets.

We also have 30 copies of the LONG out of print “Is It Exquisite” LP that we bought from Baby Gas Mask Records, who co-released that album. In a perfect world, you would go buy this from them and support another great Tucson label, but you can also get it from us.

Money Mark - Change is Coming SOILD GOLD!

Soild Gold #11 - Money Mark! The keys man behind the music of some of the biggest hits for The Beastie Boys, (Paul's Boutique, Licensed to Ill, Check Your Head, etc) Beck (he played the intro to Where It's At), and lots of other artists, is slumming it with Soild Gold.

Change is Coming is an instrumental record that features a ton of collaborators, including Sean Lennon, Los Lobos, etc, has been out of print for years, and is a fan favorite. You will almost definitely recognize some of the tunes, as most of them have been featured on tv shows, commercials, movies, etc. A really chill dinner party vibe...

All in our patented "Soild Gold Style" paste on covers, with hand stamped labels on Translucent Gold Vinyl and 12x18 cardstock poster. 50 copies of the special "Coins and Bills" splatter vinyl (trans gold mixed with silver and green, which gives it a crazy wavy look) will be randomly inserted into orders. As always, Soild Gold is ANALOG ONLY... Does not include downloads.

You can also join the "Test Pressing Guessing Game" by adding some extra change onto your "Pay What You Want". For example, if you pay $22.38 and Mark chose the number 38 for this release, you win a free test pressing along with your order.

Dead Meadow, Simon Joyner, Golden Boots

PS - There are still come spots left for The Lathe Cut Camp June 8-10... so if you got the time and need a nice warm getaway to the arid, "but it's a dry heat" desert, to cut your own records and learn all the secrets, check out www.lathecutcamp.com

1. Now that the dust has settled on shipping, there a handful of more Luna 7"s from last time leftover, and some Grandaddy Soild Gold test pressings that popped up in a box. (http://piaptk.limitedrun.com/products/611870-test-...)

2. Dead Meadow – The Whirlings Tour 7”

Jason from Dead Meadow sent me a text at 4pm one day and asked “Hey, any chance you could make us some tour singles in the next 10 days?” and I, having nothing all that pressing (get it? Get it? :-( ) going on that night said “I'll make them all in the next 24 hours”. And I did it. 22.5 hours to psychedelic dip paint the discs, die cut the covers on my grandma-approved Cricut scrapbooking cutter (a process that took almost 6 hours... those things are slow), design/print the clear labels, cut the 4.5 min stoner rock jam (an outtake from the Dead Meadow classic album, Feathers), and package them all up. 100 copies made, and we only have 50 copies available. The rest went with Dead Meadow on their US tour.

Simon Joyner – Morning Sun, Slow Down Tour single

Simon Joyner saw my post on IG about the Dead Meadow single and sent me a text saying “Hey! I've got a tour coming up too? Do you have time to knock out some singles for me as well?” Annndddd. Of course I did Having already proven myself with the Dead Meadow “24 hours from concept to completion” task, I took a more leisurely pace and spread these out over 3 days. Simon and his wife Sarah hand-screened and die cut the covers themselves. 120 copies available, and we only have 60 available. The rest will be on the road with Simon.

Tunde Adebimpe (TV on the Radio), Luna, Golden Boots releases!

Well, last time, I really meant it when I said I had no plans for PIAPTK for 2019 and that I was going to focus on other things for a bit. But, like clockwork, the universe sent me ANOTHER project that I couldn't turn down. And then another. And another. So, from here on out, any time you hear me saying something to the effect of “One of these days, the music industry won't have PIAPTK to kick around anymore”, you can probably figure it's just me negging the universe into throwing something else my way.

Coming Up:

Little Wings – Ropes in Paradise – a record of country covers.
Floating Action – New World Camels LP
(Speaking of FA, I just found out that Baby Gas Mask Records still has copies of the long out of print, Is It Exquisite, in stock at their site. Get one here: https://www.babygasmaskrecords.com/
Money Mark – Change is Coming –
Soild Gold LP!
Plus some pretty exciting, but unconfirmed other stuff.

Golden Boots – Live from Arizona Illustrated
-This is an instrumental track recorded for the Arizona PBS feature “Arizona Illustrated”. Check out the feature here. https://tv.azpm.org/p/originals-azill-arts/2019/1/15/144502-far-afield-golden-boots-at-golden-pin/ These discs were recorded at the Phoenix Art Museum festival as part of an MVR gig, but we made an extra 30 copies to sell through PIAPTK.

Tunde Adebimpe (of TV On The Radio) – Dupes/Good Fortune Handmade 7”

When I talk about the universe sending me temptations to keep on keepin' on, I mean it. This time it was getting a call from Tunde Adebimpe from TV on the Radio asking me to make some last minute singles for a solo set he is doing at a festival in Denmark at the end of the month. And, as I usually do when someone like this asks to hire my services, I pivot and say “Sure! And I'll do them for free. IF I can release it on PIAPTK and you will hand make covers”. And so, that is what happened. Less than four days after the first phone call, I'd cut 150 double sided singles and was in Tunde's backyard in LA silkscreening the back covers while he hand-customized all the fronts. These tunes were recorded with Money Mark Ramos-Nishita as the soundtrack to an animated film.

Luna – Inside Your Heart (Drew Tetz Phenokistoscope) Animated Pic Disc

Luna is one of my long time favorite bands. Much like Tunde, Dean Wareham originally approached me about doing some lathe cuts for a preorder for his latest solo LP, Dean Wareham and Cheval Sombre, and I offered to do em cheap in exchange for a Luna track to release on PIAPTK, so he gave me this great Monochrome Set cover. This one sided picture disc includes another amazing Drew Tetz Phenokistoscope pic disc designs. While you are at it, pic up a copy of the Spaceface “The Calm Before” Phenokistoscope pic disc.Check out the PIAPTK Instagram for a pic of it in action.

Holiday Bundles, House Cleaning, Found Song Poem Lps, JNR Archives

Well, it's that time of year again. I'm broke and you are looking for the perfect gift for the vinyl loving loved one in your life (and maybe yourself). So, I'm making it easy to solve both of our problems by putting together Valu-Paks of various prices, makeups and qtys. If you get stuff you already have, give them as gifts! If you order multiple "random" packs, we will do our best to not double you up too much (unless you have your eye on something specific for grandma (may we suggest Graves - Easy Not Easy??), in which case, we can consider requests.

2019 is shaping up to be the slowest year in PIAPTK's 13 year history. Going to take it slow and focus on other things.

Mobile Vinyl Recorders and the Record Lathe Repair/Restoration/Sales/Training, etc is taking me to some wild places it's looking like. I'd love to talk about them, but they aren't totally set in stone, so I don't wanna jinx 'em, but if they come through, it's gonna be bananas.

Anyway, in order to focus on those other things, and to buy a small commercial building to move The Lathe Cave into, I'm gonna need to clear out some space and raise some serious capital by the end of the year... both to have a down payment, and to show the bank that I can actually make more money in a year than someone working part time at Taco Bell.

So, any purchases from PIAPTK.com made this month will get you on Santa's Not Naughty List.

On the docket this month:
1) Holiday Valu-Pak Bundles - Get a bunch of records for not a bunch of money
2) Song Poem Found LPs - This shit is wild... see below
3) Test Pressing Sales - Most Test Pressings down to $20 per
4) Joyful Noise Super Rarity Lathe Cuts - Stuff I made for JNR including Melvins, Built to Spill, Joan Of Arc, Tortoise, etc

I'll probably even dig into the archives and throw down some sweetness if for some reason it doesn't look like a good enough deal to me to me when I'm packing it up.

Song Poem - Trendsetters - Century 21 Found LPs!

If you aren't familiar with "Song Poems", get ready for a rabbit hole of weirdness (google it, and watch "Off the Charts: The Song Poem Story Documentary). Morally questionable recording studios would put ads looking for lyrics "for new hit songs to be recorded by their soon to be famous singers"... chumps would send in some poems for "evaluation", ALWAYS be told "this is amazing! All we need is X amount of dollars to send this new singer into the studio and press up some records to send to radio stations! You will be rich!". They would record these songs using the house band, with VERY little (if any) preparation, and usually press a handful of copies of a single to send to the "lyricist". Some of these tunes were actually pretty decent, or at least hilarious for their casual shittiness.

But occasionally they would make LP comps of these amazingly awful masterpieces.

I found about 20 copies of this pretty stellar (for a song poem record) LP at a thrift store, most of them still sealed. My guess is that it came from the estate of one of these Suckers... I mean, songwriters... They go for $35-50 on ebay usually and are a pretty hot commodity for those weirdos in the know. But I want to give yall first crack at em.

This one has it all... country, folk, funk, Jesus Freaks, Pissed off Ex-Husbands, etc. Something for everyone. Also, amazing names like Kooky Kay, IB Cipher, Dewey R Demott, and Cy Attica.

Joyful Noise Super Rarities Sale!

I've been collaborating with Joyful Noise Recordings for a long time now. For the first three or four years I cut ALL of their lathe cuts, and there were a lot of them. Eventually I set them up with their own lathe so they could do some of the cuts in house, but I continued to do some of their bigger jobs. Part of the deal I had with them was that I got to keep 3 copies of every record I cut. One for my archives, one for my play shelf, and one for whatever friend I had that was a huge fan of whatever the band was. But, I've seen a of people asking for these super rarities on the JNR FB group, and some of the prices on discogs and ebay are bonkers. So, in order to get these out of boxes on my shelves and into the hands of fans who will enjoy them, I'm keeping my play copy and selling one or two extra copies I have FOR THE ORIGINAL JNR SALES PRICE so that the super fans of these bands can have these and not the ebay flipper parasites.

There are records from The Melvins, Sebadoh, WHY?, Built To Spill, Kishi Bashi, Son Lux, Godspeed You Black Emperor, Joan of Arc, Thee Oh Sees, and dozens of other amazing artists.

LIMIT THREE PURCHASES PER PERSON FOR THE FIRST DAY. I want to give everyone a chance to get some of the good stuff, so after the first wave has subsided, you can come back and get more if you want.

Series:
50 Bands and a Cat - (50B) - These were to raise funds to fight the asshole Mike Pence when he was trying to fuck up Indiana... Nostalgic for those days? I am.. (whomp whomp). They were limited to whatever people ordered at the time might have been 20 or 156)
Fountain Square Music Fest (FSMF) - Cut Live at JNRs first
Almost Live - (AL) These are the lathe cut vers mostly limited to 100
VIP Lathes
Other stuff - random cuts I did over the years

This time, there is only two new releases, and both are from Jad Fair

I love Jad Fair! Jad Fair was one of the first artists that PIAPTK got to work with, and one of the first weirdo outsider artists that I heard and connected to, way back when my former babysitter went off to college and her parents sold her tape collection at a garage sale when I was 13. Got two wild new Jad Fair records, both collaborations with guys named David... his brother, David Fair, and Tim and Eric weirdo, David Liebe Hart.

These are being co-released with Joyful Noise Recordings, and we only have a little over 150 of each. And I'm sure that their copies will be sold out by the time you read this.

WHILE YOU ARE AT IT: Pick up a copy of the Jad Fair handdrawn cover lathe cut 7" (at a reduced price), or a three pack with that AND both Jad and the Davids albums. I also have four copies left of the Jad Fair and Friends Live at SXSW 2007 (Jad + me+ Steve Fisk).

Bio Jad & David Fair:

When you’re dealing with artists as prolific as Jad and David Fair, it’s easy to get lost in the tangled web of their discography. Of course the obsessive fans will want to hear it all, but for casual listeners, such a vast body of work can seem daunting. So let’s make this simple, Scuse Us While We Kiss The Sky is a record you don’t want to miss.

Jad and David Fair founded Half Japanese in a bedroom of their shared home in 1974, and they’ve been gnawing at rock’s overblown tropes ever since. Music critics often characterize the brothers’ anti-establishment zeal as a Don Quixote like naiveté. But there’s undeniable mastery in the Fair’s precise destruction of popular music.

That technique is on full display throughout the duration of Scuse Us... Unforgettable moments include the album’s opener ‘Rock Me Reckless’: “If you want to rock me right, rock me reckless,” Jad wails over David’s pounding drums, as he strangles his guitar into submission. You’re unlikely to encounter a more visceral slab of rock and roll anywhere else this year.

‘All About That Lady Who Fixed That Painting Stupid’ is a quintessential Fair brothers anthem. The lyrics pay homage to Cecilia Giménez, the elderly Spanish woman who attempted to restore Elías García Martínez’s 19th-century painting Ecce Homo in 2012. “I prefer the version that looks a monkey in an eskimo jacket, the way it was before wouldn’t have caught my attention” Jad sings in this stirring tribute from one neo-primitive deconstructionist to another.

Jad is hard-pressed to give a number when asked exactly how many records he’s recorded with David, but there’s palpable chemistry and comfort in their rapport. "Playing with David feels so natural to me. That's how we started in music, just the two of us playing together,” Jad observes.

Whether you’re a longtime fan of Jad and David, or a newcomer to their singular musical universe, Scuse Us While We Kiss The Sky is an essential Fair brothers experience.

Bio Jad & David Leibe Hart

“Do you know a good entertainment lawyer? The Catholic church is using my music without my permission." - David Liebe Hart on David Liebe Hart Meets Jad Fair And Jason Willett

The music industry thrives on labeling artists. The practice is so deeply embedded that even the subgenres of subgenres have their own subgenres. Within this hyper-regulated system, there is no place for the indescribably unique. Artists who flagrantly disregard the system are deemed outsiders, a distinction that eventually morphed into a label of its own. With that said, Joyful Noise Recordings is proud to present David Liebe Hart Meets Jad Fair And Jason Willett, a project that unites two titanic figures from the world of outsider expression.

For fans of wild unrestrained rock and roll, Jad Fair needs no introduction. Jad has spent the last forty years demolishing rock music norms with Half Japanese and various other projects. While David Leibe Hart is best known for his otherworldly puppetry on the Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim, he’s been recording music since 2004 when he issued his self-released debut Christian Hymns And Songs Of Praise.

Jad and David didn’t meet before or during this long-distance collaboration, but both artists express a mutual admiration. "I was so pleased to work with David. He has a real creative flow and his style is very fresh,” says Jad. "I think Jad Fair is a super-genius and a talented person,” offers David.

The result of their artistic partnership is immediately humorous, occasionally dark, and ultimately touching in its naked emotional expression. David’s unconventional lyrics address a variety of autobiographical themes, from an appreciation of nature, to an almost erotic love for lentil beans. Beyond those concerns David takes listeners on a kaleidoscopic trip through trash TV based partially on his own experiences as a bit actor in Hollywood during the ‘70s and ’80s.

“A songwriter is a painter who paints what he's experienced and what he's gone through. I just paint what I've experienced,” David explains. “David certainly chose themes that wouldn't have come to my mind to write songs about,” counters Jad.

The end result is an album as compelling as it is unusual. David Liebe Hart Meets Jad Fair And Jason Willett is a milestone release in outsider music.
