This time, he used a railroad spike from Marshall, NC "the most destroyed town in the hurricane last year" where the train tracks are still unusable. Hand Carved Garden Tool was written and recorded immediately after the Hurricane of 2024.

Each Floating Action album seems like it’s going to be the last one ever. Fifteen albums, at a pace of roughly one new album per year- it seems like there’s no way to create more. But then the ideas start to creep in, and after a few months, there are suddenly, almost by surprise, enough to make another album.

A Hand Carved Garden Tool was created effortlessly, zero overthinking, leave the frayed ends on, classic Seth Kauffman approach.

Many lyric themes, including the album title, were inspired by a trip to Spain, and an interview with painter Joan Miro.

In many ways, the instruments, approach, and resourcefulness of how AHCGT was made, IS the musical equivalent of a hand carved garden tool.

This album has that perfect, organic, effortless flow - and is the pinnacle of that first-take (even pre-first take!) magic and rawness, that has become the unique stamp that Kauffman keeps searching for.
